Debra Avery and her daughter Addie had exactly that experience and it led to researching history, drafting a resolution to the State Senate, taking part in a Hartford production about the Connecticut Witch trials called “The Witching Hour”, and being interviewed for a documentary, “The Devil Among Us”. It is still early July as I write this. We are just getting the first rain of our desert monsoon season. They do not always happen if the jet stream chooses to go some other way, which has happened. So after wondering about how long the drought will last, we now get to wonder about the possibility of flash flood. Ah, summer in the desert.

Nevertheless by the time you read this, summer will be ending and our thoughts will be on the coming of fall. This is a period of mixed feelings.

Here in the desert we will be looking forward to the end of summer heat and towards the longest period of enjoyable weather, no longer hot, but not yet cold—the period between turning off the air conditioner and before turning on the heater.
